Osteoporosis

A few months ago I broke my clavicle when I took a spill on my bike. My doctor ordered a bone density scan as part of a routine thing they do when people over 50 break bones. Being a fairly healthy person and given the fall was pretty hard I expected the test results to be normal. Imagine my surprise when I got a call telling me my bone density is -3.1, which is considered Osteoporosis!

Well, I started taking Fosamax today. Yikes! I read the warnings pamphlet and it scared me so much I almost changed my mind, but the thought of breaking my back scared me even more so I decided to roll the dice. We shall see how it goes. Even if I don't have any of the many possible side effects I hope to not have to take it long term though. I'm doing a lot of research to try and figure out why my bone density is so low and I will post anything I figure out in hopes of helping others prevent it happening to them or help them get off the meds.
